The “Ho, Ho, Ho” season is over so we can now concentrate on the “Happy New Year!” season and such things as New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day parties—and, I hope, find time for a brief holiday season message from me.
So this week a column which I hope regular readers will still find time to call up on the Internet in these busy holidays.
Let me share with you a touching story of a love affair—a love affair between a youth and his dog. It seems to me to say, in a rather moving way, how much that master/pet relationship means to both master and pet. It goes like this:
A much loved pet dog (call him Rex) has yielded to the passage of time, and he appears before St. Peter at the pearly gate. His touching message to his young master (call him Bobby):
“I explained it to St. Peter,
I’d rather stay here
Outside the pearly gate.
I won’t be a nuisance,
I won’t even bark, I’ll be very patient and wait,
I’ll be here, chewing on a celestial bone,
No matter how long you may be.
I’d miss you so much, if I went in alone,
It wouldn’t be heaven for me.”
Dog owners will understand.
Happy New Year to you and those dear to you!
